Course Distance: 5 MILES

The Start is on South Pier Rd. about 200 meters from the Food Tent on the grounds of the Pier Middle School. At the gun, the course goes east on South Pier Rd. for 0.7 mile straight to the “Wishing Well” at the seawall where runners turn right onto Ocean Road. This opening stretch loses over 40 ft. in elevation, most of it from the intersection with Boon St. on the left to the Wishing Well at Ocean Rd., and is extremely fast!

From 0.7 miles, the course follows Ocean Rd southbound keeping to the right half of the road for 1.1 miles. This section is somewhat challenging as the course gains nearly 30 feet in elevation, and it is too soon to put the pedal down. At 1.8 miles, the course turns right onto Windemere Road, passing the Pt. Judith Country Club at 2.25 miles, and turning right onto Old Point Judith Road at 2.75 miles. On Windemere Rd. the course gradually gains about 45 ft. in elevation as it works its way from Narragansett Bay to Pt. Judith Rd. (Rte. 108).

From 2.75 to 5K on Old Point Judith Road, the course is flat, and runners can gather themselves for a final push for the last 1.9 miles. There will be a chip timing mat at the 5k split. All times will be recorded and made part of the official results. From 5k, the next mile on Kinney Ave. is just as ‘fast and easy’ as the opening 0.7 miles, losing 22 ft. in elevation to the 4 mile mark, just after a left turn onto Gibson Avenue. Even more elevation (about 15 ft.) is lost on Gibson Ave. from mile 4 to 4.3 miles, making for an extremely fast course for 1.55 miles from the end of Windemere Rd. to the end of Gibson Avenue at 4.3 miles.

In summary (so far), the course:
• goes gradually downhill on South Pier Rd. from the START to 0.7 miles,
• goes gradually uphill from 0.7 miles to 1.8 mile on Ocean Rd.,
• inclines gradually on Windermere Rd. from 1.8 to 2.75,
• goes downhill and very fast from 2.75 to 4.3 on Old Point Judith Rd., Kinney Ave, and Gibson Ave.

This sets the stage for the final 0.7 miles on So. Pier Road heading west to the FINISH at the Pier Middle School. This last section is fairly flat with a slight gain (only 10 ft.) in elevation and a final right turn a the middle school entrance with 100 meters to go !!

An additional sign and key volunteer with be at 4.75 miles (exact). The sign reads ¼ mile to go – “YOU CAN’T TEACH GUTS!” (Bobby Doyle)

There will be large signs at all mile marks and at the 5k split where a chip mat will record times as part of the official results.

Water stations will be at miles 1.42, 2.75, 4.05 and at the Finish, but please be sure to bring your own drinks prior to the race, especially if the weather is hot !!
